BrewDog 5 AM Red Ale

In typical Brewdog fashion, their 5 AM Red Ale amber ale did not punk out with regards to the number of hops in the bottle; chocked full of Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo and then dry-hopped with Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial, there are notes of lychee, orange peel, apricot, and pine accompanied by a smooth malty backbone. A good balancing bitterness makes this amber ale a very enjoyable drink--this is not a hop-bomb!

Claiming to be the cure to the illness that is mass-produced beer, Brewdog brews with abandon, innovation, and creativity--with a good dash of in-your-face marketing--to release amazing beer to the world from their brewery in Scotland.

  1. Delicious Review by Dan

I really enjoyed this amber ale. It is fairly hoppy but doesn't punch you in the face. It has quite a thick, semi-sweet flavour - as another reviewer put it - a little bit fruity. I really enjoyed it!

I was lucky enough to visit some of Vancouver's microbrewerys which all have a red ale - this reminds me very much of them. (Posted on 24/07/2015)

  2. Left wondering Review by Left wondering

Probably my own fault as I hit this immediately after the stalwart Punk IPA. Even with a nice gap between them I found this slightly lacking in effect. Certainly a quality brew but perhaps 1 I should have sampled on its own. (Posted on 03/05/2015)

  3. Great example of an American red Review by Ryan

I love a good American red ale and this brew is a great example. Very easy drinking. (Posted on 05/03/2015)

  4. Best of Brewdog? Review by Ben

This could well be my favourite Brewdog beer and that's saying a lot! A nice balance of malts and hops. Very tasty. (Posted on 09/02/2015)

  5. An easy drinker Review by Quitekate

Smooth and well-balanced. A good easy drinking beer from Brew Dog. (Posted on 07/01/2015)

  6. Pick me up Review by MegaHops

BrewDog's amber beer is delicious. A rarity for me to drink something like this but I will delve out of my comfort zone for something as good as this! (Posted on 26/11/2014)

  7. Drink it don't read it Review by Jon Bob

If you can avoid reading the preachy bottle label it hard to find much wrong here. A little bit fruity, but in the magnitude that spurs you on to another, rather than backing off after one. (Posted on 17/09/2012)

  8. The REAL amber nectar Review by Ian

Not really been a fan of amber ales in the past, but this one has changed my mind. Really smooth without an overly bitter after taste, very flavoursome - a top drop. (Posted on 07/09/2012)

My order arrived on time in perfect condition. I was kept informed about the estimated arrival time of my order via text and email. I am completely happy with the service.
Hmmmm I do not like writing negative reviews and have used Beer Hawk before and they have been great but I am left a little underwhelmed. Simply I ordered the Oktoberfest selection with great anticipation and expected 15 different beers I have never tried to arrive, (the previous box had contained 15 different beers and was a massive party hit.) The first issue was probably my excitement as after ordering I got an email telling me my beers were in the warehouse and ready for dispatch.... after 2 days I had heard nothing and contacted Beer Hawk only to be told they were still in the warehouse ready to be sent and would be shortly. They arrived 2 days later which is not bad but my excitement and an expectation of an Amazon esque delivery window meant the 4 days felt like an eternity. What would have helped was an indication of the length of time when ordering as I would have gone for the express option. The second issue is just instead of 15 different beers I got 5 different beers but 3 of each. I won't complain as they are good beers but I am surprised why there were only 5 different ones.... Thus, all in all it was just a little disappointing and underwhelming.
Although the delivery company brought the two boxes separately on different days, the selection of beer was great. It is the second year my wife and I have ordered the Oktoberfest box because we enjoy it so much. Great work !
