A Bock is a lager style beer that are a bit stronger and darker than the norm. Not a thick black but a deep amber colour with a light malty taste. Bock beer originated in Germany and the first malty brew came from the town of Einbeck before it spread to Munich and beyond. Residents of Einbeck had a thick Bavarian accent that meant they pronounced “Einbeck”, “Ein-Bock” and so the beer was named. You’ll often find images of goats on Bock beer bottles as “Einbock” is also the pronunciation for Billy-goat!
